the first ever philagrafika festival starts this weekend in philly, and it is expected to be one of the largest art events in the US and the world’s largest print-related exhibition. this will be a recurring event that celebrates the role of print in contemporary art. more than 300 artists will be represented at more than 80 venues throughout philly! i really like what artist gunilla klingberg has done with the entrance at moore college:

“certain things, they should stay the way they are. you ought to be able to stick them in one of those big glass cases and just leave them alone.” – j.d. salinger
j.d. salinger, author of my favorite book of all time, passed away yesterday at age 91.
we’re very excited to be opening a new store at space 15 twenty in los angeles!
if you’re not familiar with space 15 twenty, its a unique retail setting where each store is connected by an outdoor courtyard, and includes a performance space for live music, an art gallery, and a monthly pop up shop.
stop by tomorrow for the grand opening party, with food, drinks, and vintage vinyl spun by dj dez!

after today’s DIY post, an fp girl here at the home office showed me a project she did, also involving butterflies. at first glance, it’s a normal book…
…but then you open it:
isn’t that amazing? she cut out the inside and created this beautiful little scene. i love it!
another new feature on the blog!
“fp loves” will take a look at an item we’re really excited about and get word from the buyer on why they love it so much! first up: the beryll vintage artisan asphalt boots… hand-distressed from restored leather sourced from the 60’s and 70s.
and, it turns out vogue italia loves the beryll boots too! they were featured in the cover story, shot by steven miesel, for the january 2010 issue!
the beryll boots are available on our website, here.
lately i’ve really been loving the work of scotland-based artist fiona watson, using feathers, flowers, and other found items…
these are from her series called “an unwritten book”
“i used to be a scientist but have always been an artist.” – fiona watson
the feathers and wishbones are so awesome. check out more of her beautiful work on her flickr page or website.
