Must-See Movie: Beasts Of The Southern Wild

I don’t typically go to movies because I have an extremely short attention span, but after seeing the trailer for Benh Zeitlin’s Beasts of the Southern Wild, I knew this would be a movie that would capture my attention and hold it for the duration of the film – and possibly even longer. The visuals are so surreal and beautiful it reminded me a bit of Where the Wild Things Are, and the little girl in the film, adorably named Hushpuppy (played by Quvenzhané Wallis, just 8 years old), gives a performance that will reach right out of the screen and pull you out of your seat into her world of wonder. Visit the movie’s website to see if it’s playing near you! Check out some stills and watch the full trailer below…it gives me goosebumps.

Just saw this the other day, and took my 9 year old, and we were both blown away. It is a haunting and beautiful film with many strata of interpretation and meaning. I had some reservations about bringing him, as it is not a kids movie, but he is an old soul and understood most of it.

Wow. Breathtaking. So happy it’s showing in Sea Town tonight at my favorite vintage theatre.
