There’s something really sweet and whimsical about mobiles, and they make such wonderful decorations – particularly around the holidays! I’ve been saving lots of inspiration for a holiday mobile and finally got around to making one. It would make a beautiful decoration hanging above a dinner table or simply in front of a window, catching the light! What I love about this project is that there really aren’t any rules, you can make it up as you go along and add your own special touches to make it unique to you. Here’s how I made mine, maybe it will inspire you to make one as well!
What you need: This depends entirely on what you want your mobile to look like, but for mine I used a branch, some white feathers, pine cones, clear fillable ornaments, glue and gold glitter. All of these supplies can be found at your local craft store! You can also find the clear fillable ornaments at amazon.com. There are so many things you can do with them, just check out this post!
I painted the branch gold first to go with the color scheme of this mobile, but it would look pretty in its natural state too!
I knew I wanted to have gold-dipped feathers hanging from my mobile so that was my first step. I simply covered the tips of the feathers with Elmer’s glue using a paintbrush and then poured the glitter on them – super easy and so pretty!
I used a similar method on the pine cones, applying glue with a paintbrush to the tips of the pine cone and then sprinkling with glitter.
Lastly I wanted to add a couple of the clear ornaments. I put some cotton balls and a little wolf figurine in one :).
For the other ornament, I covered the bottom portion of the ornament with glue and dipped it in the glitter for an ombre effect.
Using fishing line, hang each element of your mobile from the branch.
Hang your mobile in a place where you can appreciate its beauty all winter long!
