Office Style: Meet Jialin

“Explore more new things and find your passions. It’s hard to find out what you love or hate until you really give it a shot. The path is not always visible until you start out walking.”

Your position at Free People…

 Associate Marketing Manager.

 Favorite part of your job?

My focus is on the China market. I have been fortunate to contribute to our brand’s global expansion and in doing so, have witnessed more Chinese girls wearing our garments with confidence. It’s fascinating to have the opportunity to work with almost every component of a business, inspired by such an amazing group of people!

Describe your personal style…

I am really into “New Feminine” recently — giving my look a beautiful, feminine touch without getting too “girly.” I love feminine elements like floral prints and delicate laces, meanwhile also attracted to edgy, clean and contemporary elements like earthy colors and tailored silhouettes. It’s just so much fun to have two contrast pieces strike a gender-neutral balance and create a fresh new look. e.g. a lightweight floral tank and a pair of utility pants.

Who or what inspires you?

To name a few of my current inspirations…

Jeanne Damas

Beatrice Gutu

Oliwia Pakosz

Gioia Giustino

Jessica Alizzi

Savi’s look

What are your beauty + wellness must-haves?

If I can only take one beauty product with me, it will be a lipstick. Currently I am obsessed with mixing two or three lipsticks to create a unique and beautiful color shade. The orange shades are my go-to all year around.

In terms of my skincare routine, hydration is always key. Nearly all my skincare products have listed hydration as their main benefit. Also I am looking for a decent water bottle that allows me to drink 2 liters of water a day.

What do you do outside of Free People?

I enjoy walking around the city with my love, discovering hidden gems like a well-curated vintage shop or a dreamy flower boutique. One night we walked out of a sushi place in Old City, and ten steps away there was a cute pink house with a small window packed with delicious deserts. I have found the best chocolate crème brûlée ever at this spot, named Tartes.

If you had to wear one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

The high-waisted items! Basically anything that makes me look taller. 😉

Wearing: the Simply Perfect Blazer and the FP One Imogen Pants

Best concert you’ve attended OR dream concert you’d love to attend

I will never forget the night zi spent with Preservation Hall Jazz Band in New Orleans. In a dark, small room, we sat on the floor and looked up at these musicians playing the best traditional New Orleans Jazz (acoustic). Music that touches your soul. An incredible and intimate auditory feast.

Most embarrassing outfit you’ve ever worn.

I can’t really remember! I am the kind of person who tends to delete unwanted memories.

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self.

Explore more new things and find your passions. It’s hard to find out what you love or hate until you really give it a shot. The path is not always visible until you start out walking.

And, be better at time management!

What’s the first thing you’d do if you won the lottery today?

Two plane tickets for a weekend getaway!
