There are two beautiful dresses in our March book from the label Daughters of the Revolution – beautiful graphic dresses that are ideal for a vacation as beach cover ups or dressed up for a day to night look.
Here’s a little about the designers;
Daughters of the Revolution designer, Emily Cadenhead, creates her clothes to evoke the sensibility of freedom, nature, love, and femininity that have marked her life. Her parents are hippies who live an environmentally friendly lifestyle, which liberally encourages creativity. Growing up in Malibu and Palm Springs with nature outside her window, Emily spent most of her upbringing painting and drawing. In 2007, she started Daughters of the Revolution with a small collection of hand painted dresses.
Daughters of the Revolution is a family business committed to sustainable design. The team works on a micro-level carefully selecting ethically and environmentally responsible techniques for their garments. Daughters of the Revolution uses a combination of organic clothes, natural fibers and silks. Much of their sequins and beadwork are made of recycled materials. Emily’s print designs echo nature and fairytale with recurring motifs of flowers, seashells, feathers, animal and ethic prints. The focus of the design is comfort above all else therefore developing a loyal following of women from around the world who love the collection. Daughters of the Revolution is now carried in over 200 stores worldwide as a celebration of the female form, freedom, nature, love and happiness!

acai bowl
today’s recipe is from one of our fp girls, who says she first learned about the acai bowl in san diego, where all the little coffee and sandwich huts along the beach served them.
ingredients:
frozen acai sorbet
granola
fresh fruit- my favorites: bananas, strawberries, peaches, blueberries
honey
mix together in a bowl and enjoy! this makes a delicious breakfast or snack :)

our creative team sent me some outtakes from the march catalog that they didn’t end up using, so i decided to have a little fun with them and create some mood boards – each centered around a theme: castaway, in the city, and swim.
castaway
she treads barefoot through the sand, her skin tickled by the salt and sand. she dances along, dipping her toes in the ocean and stopping to pick up sea shells that shine like pearls. she drapes herself in sheer fabrics that don’t add any weight, so she can take off in whatever direction the breeze blows her.

the city
evening sets in and the temperature in the air cools as she steps out for a night on the town. dressed in bold colors and patterns, crimped hair and red lips, skin glowing from the day’s sun and eyes alive with excitement, she dances down narrow streets into the magical night.

swim
she takes a breath and dives deep, the cool water shocking her skin after the sun’s intense heat. she savors every second of the feeling of freedom one gets when they hit the water. all other sounds are drowned out, it’s just her and her thoughts as she moves languidly under the surface.

A weekend makeup thought
Our model Martha Hunt styled herself in the studio on Friday. Her look – reminiscent of a 90’s Debbie Harry consisted of strong bronzed eyes and a rough and ready hairstyle.
The way she teases the camera lens when she’s in front out it is breathtaking. She totally set the mood for a Friday night.

yoga stops traffick
our director of design and image is taking part in an event this weekend called “yoga stops traffick,” with the goal of helping the odanadi organization put an end to human trafficking in india. last year 1,500 people joined together in yoga studios, parks, beaches and mountaintops around the world to show their support. the event takes place tomorrow, march 12th, all over the world. here in philly you can join in at mount airy yoga between noon and 2 pm, and provide a suggested donation of $20. for more info click here.

some of our designers have just been traveling in asia, and today i wanted to share a few of the lovely photos from tokyo, taipei and hong kong. our thoughts go out to the people of japan right now in the wake of last night’s earthquake… we have a great deal of love for the beautiful people and country.

an item we love: mochila bags
the amazing mochila bags featured in our march catalog are a true labor of love.
each bag is hand woven by tribeswomen of the sierra nevada de santa marta in northern colombia, an act of tradition that has been practiced for thousands of years as a way of preserving their culture and earning a livelihood. they believe that the act of weaving is a symbol of creativity, intelligence and wisdom, a practice that is passed on from one generation to the next, and the patterns woven into the bags are said to have a spiritual and cosmological significance. the history of these bags and all of the care that goes into them makes them extremely special – something to be cherished for a lifetime.
a third of the profits for each bag sold go to different community-based initiatives aimed at children and at supporting female artisans from indigenous communities in south america.
i love how they look styled in our march catalog – the prints on the bags look awesome mixed with some of the bolder black and white prints in the clothing.
personally, i’ve got my eye on this one… i think it’s the beach bag i’ve been looking for my whole life. the perfect colors, the perfect size…i laid out what i’d pack for a day at the beach.

Here’s another designer that we have featured in our March book –
ODYLYNE, is derived from all things beautiful. A simple concept and blend of bohemian and vintage styles with a touch of modern, clean lines. The inspiration behind the designs are also deeply rooted in the hippie chic world…where female artist set trends while breaking the rules of tongue-in-cheek fashion. The concept stays true to its original theme of creating the whimsical drama of mystery and sexiness without all the fuss. It just feels good and makes being a goddess pretty damn effortless.
The dress is a show stopper and can be easily dressed up or down. Here’s a little interview about the brand
