Patchwork is back on the radar, just like when Gloria Vanderbilt rocked it in the 70’s. Some of my favorite designers have experimented with this traditional craft in their runway collections. It’s a look that has “old world charm” written all over it!
Full of nostalgia it’s a look I would tone down with distressed denim heavy vintage belts and boho footwear.
Perfect for days in the park, riding your bike through the city and walking your dog
with the start of summer upon us and independence day just around the corner, the timing is certainly appropriate for our new web theme – americana picnic. imagine a hot summer day, throwing cutoffs and a tee or a sundress over your bathing suit and heading to the park for a picnic with friends. a blanket spread across crisp green grass, the plucking of guitar strings and the smoky smell of barbecue wafting through the air. cooling off with a quick dip in the lake, letting the warm rays dry your sun-kissed skin. picking flowers to weave into a headband and eating strawberries and ice cream. telling stories as the sun goes down and catching fireflies in humid starlit skies. it is a collective memory that we all share…the sounds and scents of summer.
here is some imagery that this trend brought to mind…
“and above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.”
i love it that at any given time during the day i can walk around the office or outside and find something interesting going on… today it was these two outside working on something top secret that i can’t tell you about just yet but i can guarantee you will be excited about it… :)
our store on lamar blvd in austin sent along these amazing photos that one of their associates took for a college photography project. aren’t they lovely?
anyone heading to the telluride bluegrass festival this weekend? i wish i was…there are a couple of bands playing that i really like, and it looks so beautiful and relaxing there – it definitely seems to draw a really laid back, hippie crowd. colorado is one of the few states in the US i’ve never been to, and i really want to change that very soon…
among the bands playing are alison krauss, yonder mountain string band, bela fleck, edward sharpe and mumford and sons!
there are some really cool old school photos on the website too.

Whenever I hear the word ‘stripes’ used in the fashion the thought of Mods and Rockers of the late 1950’s early 60’s spring to mind.
Twiggy, The Who, Edie Sedgwick, Andy Warhol and his Factory are all icons that I associate with this trend.
Stripes are back again but not so 60’s this time around; think subtle, playful, girly stripes that give a pinch of boy, we’re moving away from the bold black and white signature stripe that has been so dominate in the past to a new refreshing, colour palette. Just look at what the designers for Spring Summer 2010 achieved.
Crazy coloured stripes, contrast stripes and stripes worked into knitwear. I think I might be a wee conscious to walk out in the red and blue Marc Jacobs number, However the cute little numbers in our Stripe shopwill work just fine for me.
