The Free People Book Club Is Back!

Post image for The Free People Book Club Is Back!

I know it has been a while, but I’m very excited to announce that we are bringing back the Free People book club! We have selected The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, which I am very excited about because it has been so long since I’ve read it that I don’t really remember it very well and have been wanting to read it again. The Alchemist is a story of adventure and dreams, about the importance of listening to your heart and living with purpose. Read along with us and check back for posts on the book and inspiring quotes and passages each Tuesday during the month of September.

“My heart is afraid that it will have to suffer,” the boy told the alchemist one night as they looked up at the moonless sky. “Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams.”

This book totally changed my entire life. It gave me the courage for my adoption journey (and I too found my treasure in Africa). Great book!

I could read this book again and again. Full of amazing quotes and knowledge. ONE of my favorites: “When we love, we always strive to become better than we are. When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.”

Finally decided to pick up this book thanks to your site :)

I am completely wowed. I have checked up on your blog every month or so since my yearbook teacher showed me it for design inspiration a year ago and I was just reading through and saw the alchemist…my favorite cousin introduced me to it 5 years ago while on a beach vacation trip and it immediately changed my life. I told everyone about it wherever I went and what is even more amazing is that I circled that very same quote and wrote it EVERYWHERE for years but forgot about it until now and I literally started crying when I just reread it.. Thank you so much for this post and reintroducing me to my favorite part of my life so far……I absolutely love this site! I dream of designing for something as incredible as free people one day.

Wow… I’m just a touch late to the book party. However, given the good non-linear nature of the Internet, there’s no reason I can’t start reading and checking the later posts :) This has been on my ‘to read’ post longer than most books, so I think I will finally get started. Love the whole concept of the Free People Book Club! Thank you for the inspiration.
