Free People DIY Embroidered iPhone Case

We’ve had these DIY Embroidered iPhone 5 Cases available on our site for a while now, and I feel like they’ve been kind of like a hidden gem, just waiting to be discovered. That’s why today I wanted to let you guys know that they exist — and to try one out for myself! They’re available for the iPhone 5, and come in either black or white, with a variety of colored embroidery thread and a needle!

While embroidery thread is included, you can absolutely use your own if you have some in alternate colors that you’d like to try out. I used some of the thread that came with it (shown below the case), as well as some of my own (shown to the right).

First, I printed out some cool prints I found on the internet to use as inspiration.

Each rubber case is covered with mini perforations for you to needle through. I threaded my needle, looped the thread out one hole and in another, and tied a double knot.

Then it was time to embroider my little heart out. I first tried out a zigzag, which I made by skipping over a few holes and creating vertical lines parallel to one another. I did this in a few different colors.

Afterwards, I got a little crazy with the yellow thread, creating weird, random shapes beneath my zigzags.

I did a few more zigzags, and then Jana had a brilliant idea. “Why don’t you embroider an object onto your case… like a feather?” she asked. So that’s just what I did.

I’m so happy with how my case turned out!

The best part is… if you ever get bored of your design, you can just take out the thread and start anew! And the other best part? The kit is only $16.

If you get a chance to try this out, take a photo on Instagram and tag it #fpembroiderediphonecase. We’d love to see!!
