In the summertime when the heat sizzles on the city streets, I escape to the water. I feel so lucky to have a home away from home at the beach. It has always been my go-to place on summer weekends, or any time I’m feeling stressed, emotional, or too wrapped up in the minute details of day to day life. It’s funny how when you take a step back, certain things become clear. And, after what feels like weeks of rainy weather in Philly, the clouds also cleared and it was nothing but blue skies and sunshine all weekend – we took full advantage by spending every waking moment outdoors. The beach at sunset is a truly beautiful thing…the sun may not set over the ocean here on the east coast but it splashes it with color as it goes down, turning the beach the most breathtaking shades of pink and violet. It was of course 4th of July as well so we took the opportunity to snap some patriotic pics. How did you guys spend the holiday?

It is nice to disconnect! Took a long drive to a lovely state park. Spent the days hiking, playing in swimming holes and drawing little tidbits of nature. Nights were spent listening to the sound of darkness and stargazing. No cell phones, no emails, just fresh air and nature! It really does help clear your head!

I work at a yarn factory answering phones. When I want to relax I always do this one simple trick:
If someone calls asking for someone else I’ll just say, “Sorry, he’s a little tied up!”.
It always gets a laugh.
I just went to a lake house this weekend and was completely disconnected. It was great! So nice to get back to simple living and nature.

I worked part of the day. And then spent the evening with my family, had a bbq at my sisters house and then I walked down to the fair grounds and watched the fire works display…it was sort of magical..I always tear up on the 4th of July as the fireworks are going off..it makes me think back to the day they had to fight for our freedom and what those soldiers did on July 4th, those so many years ago.
Love these photos! I spent time with family, having a bbq, I made the vanilla bean cake that was posted on here, fireworks, and then in the evening played with sparklers!
