One of the things I love most about fall fashion is that velvet starts making its way back into our wardrobe. There’s something moody and mysterious about velvet that makes it a bit too dark for the summer months, but as soon as the leaves begin to change, it just feels right. Since velvet makes such a big statement, it’s sometimes hard to figure out how to style it into an outfit. For that reason, I went to one of our in-house experts – our stylist Mandi – to get her recommendations for a daytime and a nighttime velvet look.
Daytime:
Since velvet is incredibly textured to begin with, Mandi loves paring it with something simple, like a knit tee, so that it doesn’t read too chaotic. There’s something rock and roll about wearing velvet during the day — Mandi recommends teaming a great pair of bohemian velvet pants like the Shay Velvet Wideleg with a vintage-inspired graphic tee like the We The Free Zepplin Tank and a leather jacket like the Mao Leather Jacket or a fur vest for an Almost Famous kind of look. Add a ton of bangles and you’re all set.
Nighttime:
At night, velvet pairs wonderfully with some added embellishment like silver and crystals for a going-out look. Mandi loves topping off a beautiful velvet maxi dress with a crystal statement necklace like the Trapped Crystal Pendant and some crystal cuffs like the Sealed Crystal Wide Cuff and Dark Crystal Cuff. Finish the look with a great pair of ankle boots like the Sparrow Chelsea Boot and you’re ready for a fall night out. Look out for this green velvet dress on our site soon!

Love the idea of velvet in the day! I have a pair of black gaucho velvet pants I never know what to pair them with…I may slip on some flip flops, a vintage tee and some jewels and rock it out.

oh my god, I am so happy. I was almost in tears about missing out on that intimately velvet dress last year. In fact it’s still in my cart because I was in complete denial. yessssssss!!
Like other posts, I also have a cart saved with last years velvet slip dress that came in a GORGEOUS crushed mauve and then later a beautiful jewel toned sapphire crushed blue. Sadly they sold out in my size (small) quicker than a cat can blink it’s eye. Free People, you made my day when I read they will be available any day now. Every gal needs a pretty mystical crushed velvet dress in their wardrobe. It just adds a little somethin somethin.
