the sketchbook project- tour!

Ever heard of The Sketchbook Project? It’s awesome! Something like 2,000 people from around the country signed up, and were sent a blank Moleskine sketchbook. The only instructions were to send the books back by Feb 15th, and fill them with “everyone we know.” Art House, which is a group dedicated to bringing art to the masses, is responsible for the creation and managing of the project. I think that is so cool! I only wish I would have known in time to participate! But maybe next time?
For now, the books that Art House got back are going on tour, and tonight they stop in Philadelphia! Head over to Chris’ Jazz Cafe at 1421 Sansom Street tonight for a chance to flip through all the books. The books will be making the rounds at a bunch of other cities as well; click here to see a list of all the places and dates! Below find just a few pages of the many many books – click here to see a gallery of the submissions!

WINNERS: Lisa Hannigan Giveaway!

Thank you all so much for participating in the Lisa Hannigan giveaway!
Your answers about which pages you liked most and your favorite kinds of music were really interesting!
And now for the winners, chosen at random:
Congratulations to Maria!
My goodness. This is a fantastic video.
So many images and favorites!
But I’d have to say my favorite page/part is right about 2:22
Where she’s pulling him into the boat.

Congratulations to Alicia!
I like the romantic aspect of it, like the page when the girl comes and saves him from the water and when they’re on the island holding hands.
Congratulations to Kelsey!
I love old folk music like James Taylor and Joni Mitchell..
Hooray! And thank you again, to everyone, for participating! We will be doing another giveaway very soon- stay tuned!

employee desk – alex!

Welcome to the desk of Alex, one of our designers for We The Free knits and Free People pants!

I really like this composition here, so inspiring!

How awesome is that little tool box? Alex found it at a salvage warehouse in northern Philadelphia. The cool string of leather mini-pennants are from a Tokyo vintage store that specializes in classic men’s workwear and collegiate athletic wear. More than likely they traveled from the USA to the store in Tokyo, and then back to the USA again when Alex bought them! A well traveled knick-knack!

These wooden postcards are really fun, though they didn’t actually come from Anchorage Alaska! Rather, they are from a bookstore in New York City!

I love this deer flask! It’s another Philly find, this time in West Philadelphia.
IMG_6457.JPG
The awesome horse painting is from a whole collection of paint-by-number horse paintings that Alex found in her house!

These old children’s encyclopedias, besides looking gorgeous on the outside, have really cool pictures on the inside that the We The Free girls frequently use for inspiration! I think those might be the makings of another post…

conveyor belt camera

As someone who really enjoys watching people, this video just delights me! On a vacation in Tomakomai, Hokkaido, Japan, some people put their camera on the conveyor belt at a local sushi restaurant. I love watching everyone’s reactions as they notice (or don’t notice) the camera rolling by! It’s like a little seven minute vacation…

lisa hannigan giveaway!

Remember this awesome music video by Lisa Hannigan that I posted a while back? The pop-up book is so cool, and the song is really sweet!

Well, I have some fun news! Lisa was so kind as to donate three t-shirts, three packets of adorable buttons, and three copies of her new album, Sea Sew, for me to give away to you! How awesome is that?! The stuff is all very cute too! And who doesn’t want a free new album?

So now is the fun part – the giveaway! For your chance to win a Lisa Hannigan t-shirt, album, and some buttons, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post and answer one of the following two questions:
What page in the pop-up book in the music video is your favorite?
or
What type of music is your favorite?
Three comments will be chosen at random, and if your comment is one of those chosen, you win! It’s just that easy! Don’t forget to include your email address with your comment, so that if you win I can contact you! I will announce the winners tomorrow evening! Yay! Good luck!
P.S. In Philadelphia? Don’t miss Lisa’s show at the World Cafe on this coming Thursday night! It’s an event not to be missed! See all her dates on her site!
