On Saturday FP Naomi and I attended the POPPED! music festival, which took place at the Liacouras Center at Temple University’s campus – a last minute location change due to the bad weather forecast. The indoor location and dreary weather most likely had an effect on the fashion we saw, but there were a lot of elements that I think are pretty demonstrative of the fashion scene in Philadelphia. This was on my mind for a large part of the day as we scoured the crowd, and during my conversation with POPPED! executive producer Alexis, a young, fashion-oriented woman. What is Philly style? I work with very fashionable people, so I’m surrounded by amazing style all day at work, but it’s not exactly representative of our city. Judging by what we saw at POPPED!, Philly style is a bit of a mish-mash, with key elements like ripped denim or black biker boots, and a bit of a quirky edge found in the accessories – a pair of glasses, neon pops, funky prints , you name it.
Zee Avi backstage.
I loved her leopard print rain jacket!
We spotted this girl wearing a headband made from a Free People bag, just like this one!
Rad pants and mixed prints.
I like how she added beat up boots and quirky glasses to an otherwise “ginger” outfit :)
Another must-have: the black leather jacket.
Cute denim turban and a Free People skirt!
I loved her denim jacket and ripped tights!!
I loved the outfit on the right with the cropped tee, printed skirt and socks pulled up :)
Polka dots and sneakers backstage.
Alexis of POPPED! and Charles Bradley backstage :)
Stay tuned, tomorrow I’ll have an interview with Alexis and photos of some of the bands performing! Thank you POPPED! for having us!!
