Looking for some New Year’s Eve nail art inspiration? You’re in luck! Our resident nail art expert, FP Shani, demonstrates three awesome and easy nail art designs using scotch tape! I love the simplicity of these designs and how you can customize them using different colors for different times of the year (think neon for summer!). All you need is some polish and scotch tape!
Design #1: Chevron Nails
For our first design, chevron nails, you’ll need scotch tape and three different shades of polish.
Start by painting your nails with your base coat. I chose Free People Nail Polish in “gun metal,” one of my favorite shades. Important: let the base coat dry completely before moving on to the next step!
Use two pieces of scotch tape and place them over one of your nails so that all of the nail is covered except for a small triangle at the top. Make sure the tape is pressed down securely. We chose the middle nail on one hand and the ring finger nail on the other hand – you could do this on all of your nails if desired, but we loved just doing it on two nails to make it unique.
Paint over the chosen nails with your second polish color – for this color we recommend a lighter shade like white so that the third color will really pop! Carefully remove the scotch tape to reveal the triangles.
Again, it is important that you let the second layer of polish dry completely before moving onto the next step.
Use the scotch tape and on the same fingers, place the tape on the nail to make a smaller triangle inside the white triangle.
Add your final polish color on top of the white triangles – I chose Free People Nail Polish in “pink glitter” to add a little bit of sparkle. Remove the scotch tape to reveal the chevron nails! Finish by adding a clear top coat.

Design #2: Cracked Ice Nails
Our second design is a little something we like to call “cracked ice nails.” You’ll need scotch tape, scissors, nail polish and a clear top coat.
Cut three small pieces of tape and place them over your nail, using the corners to create a jagged edge.
Paint the nail with your color of choice, and carefully remove the scotch tape to reveal the “cracked ice!”
I love how unique this one is! I’ve never seen anything like it.
Design #3: Triangle Nails
The final design is simple triangles at the base of the nail – fun way to add a subtle little pop of color! All you need is scotch tape, one shade of polish, and a clear top coat.
Stick the scotch tape to your nails leaving only small triangles uncovered at the base of the nails.
Paint with your shade of choice, and then carefully remove the tape to reveal the triangles.
Which design to you guys like best?
