The Black Friday Playlist You’ve Been Searching For + Tips for Getting Through the Day!

Today is the day that shoppers near and far have been waiting for…

Black Friday!

Whether you choose to partake in this day of deals or not, there’s no denying that it’s a hot topic every year it rolls around. Maybe you’re that person who wakes at the crack of dawn to score the best markdown, or maybe you’re the type who likes to witness the madness from the sidelines. Either way, a few good tips and tunes can help make the day a success, and who better to turn to than a few of our store stylists who’ll be in-store for the madness? Below, you’ll meet some of the girls who are on the Free People Music Committee. They are responsible for selecting the music you hear playing whenever you visit one of our stores. Check out how these girls are tackling Black Friday, and find out what songs are helping them stay energized and excited!

“Comfortable shoes, light layers and lots of coffee are necessary for a busy day like Black Friday! I am so excited to be working on such a fun and energetic day! It will be so great to have our entire store team rocking the sales floor, while the music is pumping with a constant flow of shoppers. Our Black Friday potluck, full of home cooked treats, will be a plus too!”

Maggie’s Songs:

Misun- Superstitions

Talisco- Your Wish

WE ARE TWIN- Cold Stone Lips

MisterWives- Reflections

“I like to stay in my own world when shopping and a good playlist can keep me there. This Black Friday I plan on wearing something that can be taken on and off effortlessly to try on as much as possible, but also because those are the kinds of pieces I generally can’t get enough of, anyway!”

Ashlee’s Songs:

The Greenhornes – There Is An End

Anthony SaintBeg, Steal and Borrow

Diane Coffee – Hymn

Mr. Gnome – Vampire

Thee Oh Sees – Toe Cutter

Skye RoseFree People Santa Barbara-CA

Retro Print Swing Tunic, Waffling Around Cardigan, Top Of The World Thigh Hi, Rendering Clog

“I love hearing about everyone’s crazy stories, from getting up at 5 AM, to the great steals they found. When I go shopping I like to wear dresses, easy to slip on shoes, and a cute cardigan to stay warm. Things that are easy to take on and off a million times I think are prefect for Black Friday shopping!”

Skye’s Songs:

Borns – Electric Love

Zella Day – East of Eden

MO – Walk this Way

Joywave – Tongues

Pharrell Williams – Come Get it Bae

Jess LeeFree People Woodmere– Woodmere, OH

“If you are working on Black Friday rather than shopping, here are a few things I like to do to keep spirits high:

  • Keep hot chocolate on hand for your staff (and yourself), and be sure to fill half the cup with marshmallows. Nothing makes a staff full of ladies happier than chocolate!
  •  Be weird. Get your team to laugh, all stores will be busy this day, but keeping your team smiling + happy will produce AMAZING results!

Jess’s Songs:

Vampire Weekend – Holiday

ODESZA – How Did I Get Here

Madonna – Get in to the Groove

Ghost Loft – Seconds

WhoMadeWho – Heads Above

I love Jess Lee’s tip about having hot chocolate and marshmallows on hand for Black Friday staff! I’ve worked a few Black Fridays in my day and if I didn’t have something sweet nearby to snack on I would’ve gone absolutely mad!
