The SXSW Lineup Is Here!

It’s coming…

Festival season that is.

Anyone else as excited as I am? In the past week we’ve been hit with a wave of lineup announcements, including Bonnaroo, Coachella, Shaky Knees, Governors Ball, Hangout Festival, and the third and final installment of SXSW artists. Only two weeks into the new year, and it’s like Christmas all over again. Now comes the hard part – deciding which festival(s) to attend. Luckily for me, I live in Austin now, which is home to not one… not two… but three festivals (Austin City Limits and Fun Fun Fun Fest being the other two, which don’t take place until fall). I’ve attended SXSW for years now, but this will be my first time as a resident, and I could not be more excited to welcome the musicians, music lovers, and my friends who will be making the trip down. SXSW kicks off music festival season with a pretty big bang each year, and while it can be a bit overwhelming, it’s also a music lover’s dream, and this year’s lineup is incredible. I already know which ones I definitely want to attend, but half of the fun is always in the surprise shows you wander into unknowingly… the ones that often introduce you to your new favorite band.

Here’s a look at who I’m excited to see – now go check out the full lineup and let me know who else should be on my list!

BORNS – I got to meet this talented fella when we worked with Zella Day, and saw him play at the Wild Honey Pie CMJ showcase. He is one to watch, for sure – his music is irresistible, and his stage presence is amazing.

Elle King – There are some really great female artists playing SX this year, and she’s one of them. She first got my attention with the catchy “Ex’s & Oh’s” but it wasn’t until I listened to more of her music that I realized just how talented she is.

Courtney Barnett – I feel like her music is perfect for the intimate, bar setting that SXSW provides. Can’t wait to see her again, and maybe hear some new stuff!

Jamestown Revival – These guys are one of my most recent band crushes and I have yet to see them live, so this is one show I don’t want to miss. Their music has such a classic feel-good quality to it and their voices blend beautifully together.

Nikki Lane – Another talented female artist who I can’t wait to see. Nikki Lane’s music sounds like it’s coming from an old western bar. There’s an amazing vintage quality to it, and to her style as well.

Quiet Life – I was so excited to see our buds on the lineup (you may remember them from our Backyard Session). Can’t wait to catch them again here in Austin!

San Fermin – Caught them last year, by accident, and they were phenomenal. Eager to see what they have in store this year.

Wild Child – This local band always puts on such a great show and I’m sure in their hometown it’s even more fun, so this should be a good one!

Brilliant! I love that you mention local music – so important. I’m pretty sure I’ll be going to Boston Calling. I’ve done Bonnaroo before (back in 2011!) and am grateful for the experience, but am looking forward to not roughing it/not showering at the next festival I attend.

Warm Regards,
Alexandra

Typically, I stick with Forecastle in Louisville, KY. The same entertainment company that manages Bonnaroo manages Forecastle, so we get a lot of the Bonnaroo acts for less money and I get to shower when I get home. Glorious.

However, we are still waiting on the lineup. Hoping for some Florence + the Machine and Zella Day.

I went to music midtown in Atlanta last September and it was amazing! Eminem, Iggy, Lana, Jack White, Lorde, John Mayer, B.o.b, TI, 21 pilots and more!! I cannot wait for them to release the lineup! It was only $125 for the two days!!!

This looks like such a great line up! I’ve only ever been to one festival two years in a row – a big country music fest in ontario called boots and hearts. It was a great time, and I’d love to go to one of these ones sometime.

The line up this year is going to be awesome! Jared & the Mill: This band is doing great things and if you like Southwest-y music and dancey folk tunes these are your guys! They’re going to be coming out with an EP I know and it’s going to be great to hear their sound grow. Check out their new stuff for all ya who are there at SXSW! xoxo

We have way more than 3 festivals here in Austin. But SXSW is my favorite… nothing like ACL, FFF, Coachella, Bonnaroo, etc. SXSW in itself is more like 100 festivals at once. But then we have lots of smaller fests throughout the year. Keep an eye out so you don’t miss them all. Kite Fest is something to be seen. Welcome to ATX!
