One of my favorite things about Austin is the collaborative nature of the community. It makes sense that this is such a creative community, because everywhere you look, talented, innovative individuals are putting their heads together to take things one step further. I’m a firm believer in the fact that some of the best ideas come from people working together. I’ve seen it in many of the city’s talented art collectives, in places like Friends and Neighbors and Studium, and most recently, in the Prism Cult Collective.
This new collaborative venture consists of three amazing businesses: RVRB Records, Laced With Romance, and The Fox Den. RVRB Records is the official storefront for The Reverberation Appreciation Society, the record label managed by Mirna Maddox that puts on Austin Psych Fest (now known as Levitation festival). Founded in 2008, the festival takes place on a ranch outside the city in May, featuring some of the best psych rock out there, as well as amazing local vendors. The lineup this year is killer and I can’t wait to attend. Laced With Romance has been a vintage staple in Austin for years, featuring an incredible selection of vintage curated by owner Stephanie Villalobos. Rounding out the collective is the Fox Den plant boutique, Candice Bertalan’s beautiful space featuring cacti, succulents, and plants. These three talented ladies have joined forces to form this beautiful new collective, which Stephanie described best:
“The triangular prism shape is represented by three equal sides, three being important because of its magical esoteric value, in that it solves the discord created by the polarity of two. In addition, the prism through refraction allows light to go in one way (white light) and out the other side completely new (a rainbow). In likeness to our collaboration, we have all come to this project with individual identities and ideas, but by joining forces (walking through the prism), we will have the ability to create a rainbow of new ideas together.”
Candice, Mirna, and Stephanie.
