Check, Baby, Check… How Are You Doing?

Instead of abandoning all hope of your original intentions for the year, take this opportunity to do a 1st quarter check-in. This type of check-in is crucial for businesses to ensure they will meet their goals, so why not adapt it to your personal goals as well?

January 1st serves as a symbolic gesture of promise, as many of us set out to improve habits, achieve newfound goals, and manifest our fullest potential… to make it our “best year ever”. So once January fizzles into the short, yet slower month of February it’s easy for many of our best intentions to get thrown out the window, along with gym memberships and Whole30 diets. That is, until March comes around. March is a pivotal point in every new year. We finally shed the weight of winter in anticipation of spring. It’s an opportunity to check back with our intentions while having experienced enough of the new year to get a better sense of our purpose and direction.

So take this opportunity to do a 1st quarter check-in. Crucial for businesses to ensure they’re e on track to meet their goals, this same practice can be easily adapted to your personal goals as well. Here are 3 questions to ask yourself as you self-check-in:

Am I happy?

This seems like an easy place to star,t right? Identifying whether or not you’re happy can be a daunting task. Some of us seem to find a false sense of happy when we feel like we are only of service to others — like your relationship to your boss, or making sure your friends or family always have support. But what about you? Are you happy? Asking yourself this will show your truth pretty quickly. Your gut reaction to that question is the most important thing to figure out during this self check-in because, at the end of the day, that’s the key to an abundant life. Once you are happy you get to discover the real contributions you can make towards your community and each day will shape itself the way in abundance and light. That redirection to your inner joy will also help answer questions on if your intention needs to shift, evolve, or stay the same.

Is anything holding me back?

Roadblocks are super common when you are trying something new. But, they can actually help in more ways than you might think — they serve as an opportunity to declutter your life. A good spring cleaning of our physical space allows us to feel free from the weighted shackles of excess. This excess can often lead to chaos and the need to simplify is the solution for overall clarity. A spring clean can also benefit our emotional well-being by determining the root issue of why we simply can’t follow through. Perhaps your goal isn’t aligned with your true purpose, or you’ve got some inner work waiting for you before you can achieve your goals. Either way, determining this will help your self-check-in in more ways than one and is vital towards your overall betterment.

Do I have space for what I want?

This one is really important because, as obvious as it is to have space for something in your life, we live in a modern world of busy and constant connectivity. Space can come in the form of physical room, mental clarity, or time to commit. If your goal is to work out every day but you have nowhere to do it, your work has you capped on brain activity, and your schedule is already packed, it’s no wonder that you can’t achieve it. It’s important to set a goal that affords you space, and to not shame yourself if it’s not aligned quite yet. This is where a checklist can come in handy — to have a visual of everything you need to achieve your goal. Start small in how you will find the rhythms of your new goal. For example, start with a short 5-minute walk right after your lunch hour. This movement will create the where, when and how. Once you start, you will soon find new and creative ways to up your goal because you’re proving to yourself that it’s possible.

Regardless of where you were in January, it’s never too late to check in and reassess where you’re headed. What matters is that you don’t lose sight of yourself — no one can redirect you better than you can. If you’re able to choose the best decisions for yourself, it will surely impact all other aspects of your life. Keep it up and ask yourself these 3 questions as often as needed to help you achieve your goals.
