You dream and you dream, and then when the moment comes you’re scared to death.

You’ve always wanted to feel the freedom of a new city in a foreign land; you’ve been madly immersed in that hobby, just waiting to show it to the world; or, you’ve been patiently waiting and hoping for love to come your way. But when that big moment comes – it’s real and it’s tangible – and all of a sudden you can’t breathe. You don’t know if you can do it.

Those are the experiences that you have to strive for. The ones that force you to step outside of what you’ve done in your life up until the here and now. You’re scared because you think you don’t know how to do it, or you’re scared because you’re putting yourself in a vulnerable position. The payoff is great, but the process in getting there is unknown; we naturally fear that which lays beyond our own horizons. We’re also scared because we care. When an event takes place, an experience having to do with our goals and dreams, it can fill us to the brim with fear.

But I’ve never met anyone who regretted pushing through a scary moment. You come out of it bigger and better – with rich experiences and an interesting tale to tell. If you never push through fear, you’ll never move forward.

So move to that new city, publish that book, and for heaven’s sakes, kiss that boy! On a regular basis, do the things that scare you. On the other side of that scary moment, you’ll find a fulfilling life.

This couldn’t have come at a better time! I’m leaving for Italy alone today and I’m excited and terrified and the same time.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

a beautiful post!
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.’ We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?…” -Marianne Williamson
