Today I wanted to share some new music that is making me so excited for this year and what’s to come. It’s great when bands you know and love release new music, but there’s also something so rewarding about discovering a new band and a whole new sound that you just can’t seem to shake from your head. Here are some new releases and new discoveries that I am listening to nonstop – let me know if you love them too, and share any new music you’re listening to in the comments!
Foxygen is a Los Angeles-based duo consisting of Sam France on vocals and Jonathan Rado on guitar/keyboards. Their forthcoming album is called “We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace and Magic,” and their music, a rock & roll-meets-psychedelic sound reminiscent of Bob Dylan and The Velvet Underground, described as “love letters to vinyl collections.” That was enough to get my attention, and once I listened to their songs “Shuggie” and “No Destruction” I was completely hooked (listen to them below!). It’s fun, different, and sure to get you in the mood for the coming festival season. Stay tuned for their album
K. Ishibashi is the violinist from Of Montreal, and Kishi Bashi is his solo project. His album 151a came out in 2012 but I just recently discovered it and can’t stop listening. It’s lush orchestrations are complex and entrancing, pulling you into a world where the sun always shines and the air is warm and tropical. I love “Bright Whites” and “Atticus, In The Desert.”
Last week, Local Natives released the second single off their forthcoming Hummingbird, “Heavy Feet,” and I like it even more than the first single “Breakers.” This song has a beautiful melancholy to it that tugs at your heart and makes you feel, which is just what a good song should do. Hummingbird comes out at the end of the month!
More indie music we love.
