Post-Workout Vegan Smoothie Recipe

After you work out your muscles – whether it’s yoga, running, or lifting weights – it’s important to get the proper nutrients into your body. Once you’ve finished a workout, there’s a period of about 20 minutes where your body takes anything consumed and uses it as energy right away, as opposed to storing it for later. This short period of time is crucial to aiding your body, and this quick smoothie is the perfect answer. Post-workout, it’s necessary to consume healthy carbohydrates (in the form of bananas and peaches in this smoothie) together with protein (which you get from the flax seed meal).

This is a delicious smoothie that I accidentally created in my kitchen one day (as is the case with most of my recipes). It’s so good that I’ve been constantly sharing it with everyone around me – and they all seem to agree. You’re not limited to only drinking this smoothie post-workout, either. It makes a great breakfast or snack, as well!

Ingredients:

Peach banana smoothie recipe

¾ cup unsweetened almond milk
½ frozen peach, sliced
½ banana, sliced
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon flax seed meal

*You can use a fresh peach, as long as the banana is frozen, or vice versa. I just make sure that at least one of the fruits is frozen so that I don’t have to use ice. Ice would water down the smoothie, and we certainly wouldn’t want that! :)

Directions:

Combine all ingredients into a blender and blend on high until smooth. Enjoy right away!

  1. Hey Brigette, this looks like a great recipe! Can’t wait to try it.
    Unfortunately it contains less than 3 grams of protein, though. So be careful advertising it as a post-workout smoothie! You definitely will want to add in some protein powder if using it as a post-workout.
