Just under three weeks until Austin residents and music lovers escape the city to a ranch alongside the Colorado River for three days of mind-mending psychedelic rock. That ranch is Carson Creek Ranch, where Levitation Festival takes place May 8-10 bringing some of the psych rock world’s best – 13th Floor Elevators, Flaming Lips, Jesus & Mary Chain, Tame Impala… just to name a few. I’ve never been to this festival, but from what I’ve heard it’s a celebration of all the things that make Austin so wonderful, with an emphasis on the weird. Camping festivals always seem to be their own little alternative universes, places where saying things like “meet me by the giant snail” or “let’s go shower in the mushroom fountain” are totally commonplace. For a few days, attendees can let go of all traces of reality, and slip into a strange and beautiful world where you can be anyone you want to be, or an alternate version of yourself. And when it comes to your campsite, the place you’ll call home for these few days, there’s no limit to how creative you can get. We’re not talking about your typical, functional campsite here – you don’t have to be practical at a festival. Let your imagination run wild, and create a space where you can feel comfortable and free. To inspire the festival goers out there, the ladies of the Prism Cult Collective styled this incredible setup in the woods of Carson Creek Ranch – if you’re attending the festival be sure to stop by their retail tent!

What an exotic and stylish space! I would love to keep this concept in mind when decorating my own apartment!
That tent looks absolutely gorgeous! Love this space, that would have been amazing to see in person.

Love, love, love that set up. I went to Austin Psych Fest a couple years ago (before the name change). It was one of my favorite music festival experiences, to date. You really can’t beat the location and the lineup is always spot on. I wish I was going this year, but I’ll have to settle for dreaming about it.

Gotta say, this tent looks a lot more inviting than other, more traditional camping methods. I feel like this festival is one I’ll have to experience for myself some day….can’t wait for that day to come but right now I’m still in Manila so it’s a little bit of a commute to get there.
