Levitation.
The act or process of levitating; rising or making (something) rise into the air in a way that appears to be magical.
An intriguing rebirth for the festival formerly known as Austin Psych Fest. As a first time attendee, I didn’t know what to expect. I went in with a completely open mind and heart, and this festival took my breath away. I loved the crowd. I’ve seen my fair share of festivals, and I’ve come to realize that I prefer the smaller ones. I can be easily overwhelmed by too large of a crowd and I loved that this festival was smaller, more intimate. It was easy to find people, and likely that you’d bump into friends unexpectedly as well. The vendor booths felt cozy and well curated, like places you want to actually stop and hang out for a while. And… back to the crowd… these were genuine music lovers, people who were there for the music, the experience, and appreciating it to the fullest. There was also the excitement of bearing witness to some epic moments in music history. Headliners The 13th Floor Elevators reunited live for the first time in 50 years. The Jesus and Mary Chain performed their acclaimed album Psychocandy in its entirety. Festival originators The Black Angels performed to a huge crowd. The clouds parted and the sun came out for the majority of the weekend.
There was magic in the air for sure… Levitation, I’ll be back for many years to come.
I spent a good amount of time dodging the rain on Friday in this cozy little space curated by the ladies of the Prism Cult Collective.
If you’re ever in Austin, do yourself a favor and get some beet fries and Brussels sprout salad from East Side King. One of the best things I’ve ever eaten, hands down.
Awesome local band Holy Wave performing on Friday night – check these dudes out.
A beautiful creation by the talented Ben Nuhn – more to come on this fella!
The lovely Mirna Hariz, one of the festival organizers.
Flaming Lips balloons.
Thee Oh Sees were amazing on Saturday night.
My personal highlight was seeing one of my favorite bands, The Jesus and Mary Chain.
I highly recommend attending this festival if you have the chance! For more info check out their website and follow them on Instagram to see more awesome shots from last weekend. Plus, stay tuned for some festival fashion and more!
Special thank you to Prism Cult Collective (Laced With Romance, The Fox Den Plant Boutique, and RVRB Records!).
Psych Fest is one of the best curated festivals! Austin is so lucky to have several festivals that have interesting line ups like Fun Fun Fun and Chaos in Tejas (which is no more).
The south has the best festivals -this phot diary is beautiful!
Warm Regards,
