No time to shampoo? no problem! Read on to learn how to fake it…
Unwashed hair is a great thing. Going a few days between washes lets the hair produce its natural oil, which acts as a moisturizer and a barrier for protection. But what about those times we accidentally go a day too long without washing? Or those of us (myself included) with hair that likes to show signs of unwash in just a few hours?
I was so excited when I found out that Lulu Organics made an exclusive geranium rose scent for us in their natural Scented Hair Powder. This stuff is absolutely magical. I turned to the creator herself – Linda “Lulu” Aldredge – to shine some light on the art of keeping hair looking fresh, all day, every day. Take it away, Lulu!
I have super fine hair so it looks dirty even if I’ve washed it the day before – though I have a few tricks to keep the flat and oily vibes at bay:
Hair Powder: Obviously this is my go-to, and there are a number of ways to apply it. The safest way is to shake a small amount into the palm of the hand, rub your hands together and then work through the roots of your hair. I would repeat this process all over the scalp until you feel like the look of oil in your root has dissipated. Sometimes people like to use a blush brush and apply it to the scalp in the same way you would apply powder to your face. I personally have gotten to the place where I sprinkle it directly into the root… THIS method is not for the faint of heart. It is very easy to apply too much, so only try it if you’re feeling confident and maybe have nowhere to be.
Boar’s Bristle Hairbrush: I actually can’t get through my day without a really good boar’s hairbrush – I prefer the The Shine Brush or the Monroe Margaux. It’s important to brush the hair every day to move the oil at the root of your hair to the ends, which tend to dry out and get brittle. I always brush my hair liberally at night and on a ‘dirty’ hair day I’ll apply some Hair Powder to my roots, brush out my hair and tie it up in a twisted top knot so in the morning my roots are drier, have more lift and I have a really nice, natural wave.
Non-Aerosol Hairspray: Once I have a really good wave going in the morning to prevent it from falling (with my super fine hair, it alllllllways falls), I will set it with a good hairspray. Lately I’ve been using Number 4 Non-Aerosol Hairspray. I apply it 80’s-style: bent over with my hair hanging down!
Have a great hair day, friends. ;)
