Just some pictures of our newest Free People store in Portland, all decked out for the holidays!

Anna McCaleb -Jan 04, 2009, 5:35PM
okay i want my room to be EXCTLY like ALL of this! but one thing i have been searching for is the garlands in the stores. in the San Antonio shop (which i was in a week or two ago) they had the most beautiful garlands or maybe streamers attached to the ceiling and I'm almost certain that they are the same as the ones draped around the top row of socks on the third photo from the top......CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHERE THESE CAN BE FOUND?! or ANY other decor in these fabulously eclectic stores!! thanks so much, Anna

The new intimates catalog brings me to ask where free people gets their fabric. i'm sure they design all of it, but in a perfect world there is a website i can visit and purchase the rose patterned backdrop from the cover of the latest issue, etc. etc.

I love all these different kinds of tape! I was thinking about our post about decorated tape from the other day and did a little search for adhesive tape and found I love sticky tape! It’s a blog which is, as you might imagine, devoted entirely to tape, and it has many cute and cool types of tape featured on it! I especially love the tinsel tape – it gets me in the mood for the holidays!

The expression on Agnes's face is precious. She looks so concerned about her mom.

Free People is hosting a winter craft swap called The Art of Giving! It’s been a long time since our last swap, so I am super excited. Join us in handcrafting some amazing gifts for your fellow Free People friends and spread the winter cheer.
Here’s how it works: You fill out the simple form with your name, email, and mailing address. People outside the United States are welcome to join, but if you live in the U.S., you can indicate if you do not want to ship internationally. I will match you up with a partner and send you their email and shipping address.
You’ll have until New Years to make a gift and mail it to your partner. You can make anything you want. The wintery theme can be your inspiration. You can make something to keep warm, decorate your home, or simply make your partner smile.
Click here to join the swap. Sign up will end next Friday, November 21.
Check out some of our old flickr groups from previous swaps! Valentine 08, Dark Fairy, Travel, and Valentine 07.

Our November catalog just came out a couple days ago, and I think it is just gorgeous! I wondered though, which catalog from this autumn has been your favorite so far?
Below are the covers from the last three catalogs. If you click the name of the month above the picture, it will take you to the main FP website, where you can look at the inside of each catalog online, in case you need a reminder before you pick your favorite!

So which is your favorite?

B -Nov 06, 2008, 2:13PM
I love the background on the FP homepage. I tried to save it to make it my desktop, but it wouldn't let me. Is there anyway you could post it so I could save it?

A little late for Halloween posts, but we left our cameras at home!
The whole buying team and some of Free People Direct dressed up as coke cans on Halloween! One of the buyers made all of the red tube dresses and everyone stenciled their own, added their own Americana accessories (denim jackets and mustang parts) and wore can tabs on chains around their necks.

Gee’s Bend Quilts

You might remember when I mentioned the Gee’s Bend quilts a while back. They are completely exquisite, and use really unique techniques and styles – all in all, totally inspiring! They are currently being exhibited at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and I just wanted to give everyone who is in the area a reminder! This is a really great chance to see 74 of these amazing and historical quilts before they go home on December 14th. Go on a Sunday to pay whatever you like instead of the normal $14 museum entrance fee. (I’m going this Sunday!) Check out the museum’s page for some cool background information about the quilts, and for tons of pictures of them go here.

I saw these quilts in August of 2007 at the art museum in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Wonderful work and story.

Happy Halloween! I hope everyone has a fun way to celebrate and have a big hurrah before winter arrives!
Here at the home office, we are happily enjoying a number of festivities, including an adorable doggy costume parade thrown by our sister brand, Anthropologie! I went over and had a look, and there were so many cute little costumes! I snapped a few pictures; check them out!

Here comes the parade, led by a cute lobster and a football star!

A cute little bat!
Detective Pug is looking for clues…
Meanwhile Hula Dancer Pug gets ready to dance!
Here we have a great big bumble bee!
…And a little tiny bumble bee!
Last but not least, my personal favorite doggy costume, the Phillies Phanatic! So cute!

Spookshows.com just added a collection of vintage poison labels to their collection of Halloween images. You can download a zip file with high quality images and can do with them what you wish. The site suggests cutting them out and putting them on cocktail glasses for your Halloween party!
