girls rock philly!

The awesome week-long musical summer camp Girls Rock Philly is looking for volunteers for it’s upcoming session this August! The all-girls camp targets musical development, self-esteem enhancement, friendship & community building, and nurturing individual talents within a cooperative atmosphere. During the week long camp, the campers form bands, and at the end of the week put on a concert! The campers and volunteers (who do not need to play an instrument or be in a band) have a blast!
They are having a meet-&-greet for volunteers a week from this Sunday. Check out the specifics if you’re interested! There’s also a Girls Rock Portland and a Girls Rock Chicago that I bet are starting to look for volunteers as well!
Below, check out a few of the bands from last year‘s camp. They are so awesome!

Happy Friday morning! I hope you’ll find this music video for Jemapur‘s song Maledict Car as mesmerizing as I do! I bet you will…

Whenever it’s time for the Thursday Poll, it always seems to surprise me that it’s Thursday already – every week! But it is Thursday, and it’s time for our poll!
We decided last week that Orange Ocean is our favorite color of the Boyeee Tee, though it was actually a really even vote!
This week, I am excitedly looking at our hats – soon we won’t have to wear winter ones anymore, but sweet summer hats! I can’t wait! We have some really cute summer hats right now, and I am wondering which styles you prefer…
First, check out our Belize Sun Hat.

Next is our Raffia Cowgirl Hat, shown here in Yellow.

Below, the Head in the Clouds Hat, in Grey.

Next check out our Woven Rainbows Straw Hat.

Finally, see our Stitch Fedora below!

So which hat would you wear? What do you like?

The Woven Rainbows Straw Hat is so cute! Totally fresh!

Ever heard of The Sketchbook Project? It’s awesome! Something like 2,000 people from around the country signed up, and were sent a blank Moleskine sketchbook. The only instructions were to send the books back by Feb 15th, and fill them with “everyone we know.” Art House, which is a group dedicated to bringing art to the masses, is responsible for the creation and managing of the project. I think that is so cool! I only wish I would have known in time to participate! But maybe next time?
For now, the books that Art House got back are going on tour, and tonight they stop in Philadelphia! Head over to Chris’ Jazz Cafe at 1421 Sansom Street tonight for a chance to flip through all the books. The books will be making the rounds at a bunch of other cities as well; click here to see a list of all the places and dates! Below find just a few pages of the many many books – click here to see a gallery of the submissions!

Thank you all so much for participating in the Lisa Hannigan giveaway!
Your answers about which pages you liked most and your favorite kinds of music were really interesting!
And now for the winners, chosen at random:
Congratulations to Maria!
My goodness. This is a fantastic video.
So many images and favorites!
But I’d have to say my favorite page/part is right about 2:22
Where she’s pulling him into the boat.

Congratulations to Alicia!
I like the romantic aspect of it, like the page when the girl comes and saves him from the water and when they’re on the island holding hands.
Congratulations to Kelsey!
I love old folk music like James Taylor and Joni Mitchell..
Hooray! And thank you again, to everyone, for participating! We will be doing another giveaway very soon- stay tuned!

Super duper smile. Free People + Lisa Hannigan = Buckets of Love Super duper smile. Free People + Lisa Hannigan = Buckets of Love <3

to kelsey: too bad Joni Mitchell and James Taylor aren't "old" folk music. they certainly fall in to the folk music category. If you'd really like to consider yourself a fan of "old" folk music, i suggest you look up Woody Guthrie.. because he is the closest to old we've got in terms of actual recorded folk music. the old stuff was never recorded, obviously. sorry for coming off snobbish.. but i had to say something. p.s. I do applaud your music taste.. Joni Mitchell is one of my biggest idols.

Happy Thursday everyone!
Last week we voted on our favorite tube top from a few that are currently for sale, with the Sunburst Tie Dye Top becoming the clear winner with 183 votes!
This week I am feeling pretty obsessed with our new Boyeee Tee. I have seen a ton of people around the office wearing it, and they look so cute and comfy! I really like burnout tees, and it seems to go with everything. I love all the colors so much, I can’t pick a favorite! Can you?
Below is the tee in Orange Ocean.

Next is the tee in Grey!

Finally, here’s the tee in White Trees.

What do you guys think? Which color is your favorite?

emily -Feb 27, 2009, 10:01AM
MUST get the orange one!! i think the colors you chose will look good on a lot of different skin tones for that one.
Faith -Feb 27, 2009, 12:10AM
Grey is always my favourite...

I’m excited for this film Tokyo! based on the questions, “Do we shape cities, or do cities shape us?”
It helps that Michel Gondry is involved (director of Science of Sleep and Eternal Sunshine) and that the trailer looks so intriguing!

fpgirl -Feb 26, 2009, 12:38PM
oh no! you've ruined my excitement. has anyone else seen it already??
Shay -Feb 26, 2009, 1:21AM
I saw it at a film fest, and it was a big disappointment. Gondry's portion is mediocre...

Wow! I can’t believe we’ve reached poll 30! It doesn’t seem that long ago that we had our first poll!
Last week we thought about which current Free People tights we like, and like a couple of weeks ago, the vote was really close! The winner with 149 votes was the Pondi Cherry Paisley Tight, followed closely by the Courtneyrose Footless Tights which got 143 votes!
This week I wanted to ask you about tube tops, because I can already tell that this spring they are going to be a really prominent style! We have so many uber-cute tube tops right now, and we’re putting more up on the site every day! For now, check out the tops below- I’m wondering which style is your favorite!
First up is our Tangled Tuscon Tube in coral.

Next is the Solid Seamless Tube in grey.

Now check out our Starry Night Tube in pimento!

Next is the Solid Lace Bandeau Tube in storm.

Finally, shown below is the Sunburst Tie Dye Top in purple combo!
93T0672_50_a.jpg
So which of these tube top styles do you like the most?

jaranian -Feb 22, 2009, 12:03PM
"Solid Lace Bandeau Tube" is the most unique, and original piece FP can offer in this selection. However based on the type of customer I believe they will traditionally choose, "Sunburst Tie Dye Top" and lastly "Tangled Tuscon Tube". As a personal interest I would love to see more bandaged items. But I do believe the non-clingy items are going to have a long succession.

I love this video for Lisa Hannigan‘s new song, Lille! I think you guys will too, if not for the song then for the awesome pop up books! Enjoy!

http://Www.themarker.com/news/1.2043694 -Feb 07, 2014, 4:14AM
If you are groping around in the dark looking to turn on the security system, simply use your voice to switch it on. If you have monitoring home security systems, the alarm company will get in touch with you and those on your address book as well as provide a presence at your home within a very good time frame. With continued technological advancements, there is no reason not to look into additional security.
Faith -Feb 17, 2009, 7:14PM
That is one EPIC pop-up book! ~F
