Office Style: Meet Katie

“I think there is reason behind everything, big and small, bad and good – there’s always a bigger meaning to the little things we experience every day, and it makes me feel confident that everything will always fall into place.”

Your position at Free People…

I’m a Purchase Order Assistant, working with beauty, woven tops, swim, hair accessories, belts & bags!

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I’ve always had diverse interests, so I bounced back and forth between a little bit of everything at one point or another – doctor, teacher, designer, makeup artist, you name it. I’ve always wanted to make a difference and do something that would have a positive impact.

What does your typical work day look like?

It HAS to start with coffee (lol). After that, it depends on the day! I could be creating new styles, meeting with buyers, or sending out purchase orders for different pieces that will eventually be in our stores or online!

Favorite part of your job?

FP is home to so many intelligent and talented people that I feel grateful to work with every day. Everyone brings something unique to the brand, everyone is supportive, and that’s something special. I’m always learning something new from the people around me!

Describe your personal style…

Comfortable and relatively simple. HUGE fan of the graphic tee & ripped black jeans combo, and I’m a sucker for gold jewelry to accent.

What makes you feel confident?

Having a sense of purpose. I think there is reason behind everything, big and small, bad and good – there’s always a bigger meaning to the little things we experience every day, and it makes me feel confident that everything will always fall into place.

Who is your style icon?

Stevie Nicks! I’m a big Fleetwood Mac fan and I love seeing her looks from throughout the years.

What are your beauty + wellness must-haves?

SKYN Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels, Lanolips Lemonaid Lip Treatment, Youth to the People Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream, and Voir Rhythm of the Rain Hair masque.

What do you do outside of Free People?

I love going for hikes and experiencing nature, and I’m so happy the weather is finally getting nicer so I can do that more! I’m also a massive fan of “The Office” (I quote it way too much, oops) and really enjoy exploring the city and finding new shops or restaurants.

Wearing: the Understated Leather Camera Bag, the Kendall Satin Midi Skirt and the Lola Flatform Sandal.

If you had to wear one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Definitely a graphic tee with a comfy pair of jeans!

Favorite place you’ve ever visited and why.

I love London, I’ve been there twice and hope to go back! It is a beautiful place full of history, and there is so much to see! My favorites are probably the London Eye, the Tower of London, and Covent Gardens. 😊

What song would describe you best?

“Get Free” by Major Lazer. I actually have a tattoo dedicated to this song because it has always meant a lot to me.

Most embarrassing outfit you’ve ever worn.

Literally anything I ever wore in middle school….looking back at old pics from middle school dances makes me cringe!

One piece of advice you’d give your younger self.

Don’t rush – allow yourself the time to determine what fulfills your sense of purpose, and brings you genuine happiness.
