Spring Trend: Pastel

Spring fashion is starting to creep onto our homepage and I’m finding it hard not to dive straight into the fresh florals, pastel colours and lighter fabrics. Here in Philly we still have a couple more months until the weather starts to change. In the meantime I’m sourcing the spring 2012 runway trends to see what’s going to be hot fashion when the sun shines it’s warmth on us.

Last week we had florals this week we have pastels! Candy shades seem to be a lovely direction and we love the idea of wearing two shades together and making a full blown impact – I’m sure it will put a smile on anyone’s face if you look as sweet as a candy cane.

We loved what Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Jonathan Saunders and Jaeger showcased, our sweet tooth got big, now… where’s the bag of Cadbury’s mini eggs!

NYFW street style

Yesterday New York street fashion came alive with pops of neon; we spent the day back and forth between the Lincoln Center and Milk studios trying to hunt down some looks that caught our eye.
It’s always so fascinating watching how people choose to dress themselves and you can always read something about their personality just by what they are wearing. I for one love soaking in fashion; it’s like a book it makes your imagination run wild.

Pretty pastels were teased by bright pops, and yes spring florals are starting to creep their way in, bring on the spring!

In the evening we finished off the day at the Betsy Johnson show and as you can expect it was quite a performance, full of energy and bright lights it was hard to keep up! Here’s round one of our Street Style, more to come tomorrow!

My NYFW Diary

Yesterday after an evening of spending some time with my friends who are visiting New York from London I headed to the Mara Hoffman show. Her fall collection was inspired by “Shaman gauchos”. The ultimate bohemian bombshell sprung to mind as I watched meteorite patterns, tapestry motifs, and “third eye” symbols run down the runway with a jewelry collaboration with All For The Mountain! I left breathless and with a clear indication of how exactly I want to dress for Fall 2012.

Mid afternoon I made my way to “Pie and Thighs” in Williamsburg for a quick southern bite before departing back to Philly in the snow. Tomorrow I’m back to the Big Apple to take a bite at Street Style. I’ll also be checking out the Betsy Johnson show and after party!

My NYFW Diary

Yesterday was a busy day, Free People was shooting our February look book at 5 Beekman NY; a beautiful derelict building built in 1882. Our model Martha Hunt danced around in pastels while her face and hair was decorated in bright powder pops and coloured yarns. Next week there’ll be more photos on this so stayed tuned!

Mid afternoon we headed to the Lincoln Centre to see the Charlotte Ronson show. The crowds swamped in, Dead Weather lyrics flooded the room and the spotlight shone on the celebrities seated at the front row – Nicky Hilton, Sky Ferreira… the list goes on.

Charlotte Ronson’s collection was an array of sophistication with a spontaneously cool edge. Colours of bottle green, oatmeal, navy and deep purple collided with quirky geometric prints. It was a collection perfectly executed. Not too old, not too young but, spot on right in the middle!

Now for Fall 2012 I’m all about bottle green and oatmeal!

My NYFW Diary

I didn’t get much sleep last night at The Jane Hotel… The excitement was running through me.

At 9am after a strong red eye I headed to the Lincoln centre for the 10am BCBG show. The fashion flock were swamping in and the adrenalin was sky high. Everyone was excited to see what the show had to offer. The lights dimmed and the music started pumping, the models sashayed down the runway showing elongated shapes, beautiful colors and a great use of geometric obstruction.

After the show we hunted outside the venue for style, I spied Alexa Chung and my heart started racing. New York is fast, one blink and you’ll miss a trick! my tired feet are now resting with thoughts on what Fall 2012 fashion will become. I wonder what tomorrow will bring…

Kicking off NYFW at the IFB conference

Today I’m at the independent fashion bloggers conference (IFB) where a community of fashion bloggers share their experiences. A panel of influential blogging experts such as Bryan Boy, Cupcakes and Cashmere, DKNY PR girl and others talk about their traits and why they love what they do. As you can expect from a group of bloggers from New York City the fashion here is quite something, Neon and Jewels are definitely hot topic!

Blogger’s Diary – Collection of photos

A collection of photos have built up in my instagram like a visual calendar reminding me of certain things I did in the week.

It’s easy for me to declare that I’m slightly addicted to documenting my days, I like to capture the essence that remind me of my whereabouts, my feeling and my thought. Capturing a moment is like pressing pause on your life – which thought, which feeling you had there and then will remain there through the photo you took.  Like a treasure chest it’s always nice digging through photos, the feeling you get is something else.

Tunesday: Getting to know Twin Sister!

Sunday the 22nd of January we went to Johnny Brenda’s – a charismatic bar, restaurant and music venue that has a strong presence mainly to do with the amount of awesome bands that sail through there, one being Twin Sister who we managed to catch up with while they sound checked and nibbled on Whiskey doughnuts. We love Paris Couture!

Whenever Paris Couture starts running I get giddy over fashion and the excitement of fashion weeks starts running through me. Paris Couture is what fashion dreams are made of, a traditional love and lure for craftsmanship and fine details, it’s fashion design at its very best and you can’t help but show true respect for it. The level of workmanship from the ateliers is especially inspiring. From Karl Lagerfeld’s tribute to shades of blue for Chanel, Valentino’s key to the eighteenth century’s Age of Enlightenment and “real” values to Elie Saab’s easy to digest rainbow of shiny, beautiful pink, peach, yellow, mint green and baby blue gowns.

Paris Couture shows true love to fashion “Fashion needs culture or it becomes empty” said Pier Paolo Piccioli and that’s so true. Now I’m looking forward to the ready to wear shows to begin 9 days and counting!
