Every year I look forward to latkes for Chanukah. In my family, we always ate them for the holiday. I remember one year when my mother was working at a local newspaper and she made an entire array using all types of potatoes for a review. It’s a fond memory of mine, and now that I’ve moved out of my parents’ house I still need them so much that I’ve taken on the task myself. Read More

Thursday Poll: Color Pops
Publications are always telling us which colors to wear. Are we calling it nude or blush this season? Open up a magazine, and you’ll see how neons are all the rage. We’re color obsessed! One of the most fun things to do is experiment with color. We’ve been doing exactly that here at Free People which has led us to settle on color POPS as our must have look this season. We love pairing these bright hues back to neutrals – dusty pinks, elephant grey, black and white –letting them make their statement, and grabbing the eye. My question for all of you is – which piece will you be popping?

Store Style: Grunge
Our store girls are great at styling looks, so I was really excited to see what they’d come up with for our grunge trend. They did not disappoint!
Kassandra works in our Seattle store – located in the birthplace of grunge at its best, no wonder she rocks the trend so well :)
Here she wears skinny jeans, the imagine me graphic tee, the caldra layer pullover and plaid buttondown.
Here she pairs the imagine me graphic tee with the floral widelegs, stripe hooded cardigan and open knit beret.
For her third look she’s wearing skinny jeans, the lace buttondown over a floral tank with a leather jacket and beanie.
Here we have Megan from Portland wearing the jilly maxi dress with the washed floral baby tee and vegan leather buttondown over top, with the sunbleached leather trim tote and multi stripe beret.
Morgan from Portland wears skinny jeans, textured tall sock, stripe hooded cardigan, plaid buttondown, washed mini satchel and leopard beanie.
Hayley of Seattle wears skinny jeans, the imagine me graphic tee, and kimono stripe sweater.
Meg from Seattle wears the fp skinny cords, plaid buttondown, and vegan leather buttondown.
I like this interesting take on grunge from Katie from San Jose – she’s wearing the sequin bodycon skirt with the plaid crop buttondown and a cute little top that will be available soon!
Raven from Atlanta wears the knit legging, hacienda lace up boot, sequin bodycon skirt, plaid shirt and cropped vegan leather jacket.
Jen from Topanga wears the valhalla velvet short with the American rebel tee.
And lastly, the flannel onesie is (sadly) no longer available, but this look was too good not to share!

Blogger Picks: Claire Geist of DeLune Blog
The final series in our blogger picks for grunge comes from Claire Geist of DeLune Blog. She’s a little pixie redhead who you wouldn’t normally think of as a grunge girl. Because of this, she brought an interpretation to the trend that was fun to see. It felt fresh and very downtown. The ditzy print of the Floral Shirt Tail Pucker Dress came alive when she paired it with the Vegan 3 Eye Gibson Shoe and ankle socks. The result was grunge but she brought an elegant and feminine twist to the table.
From all of the grunge items she saw that day, Claire told us which her top five must haves are for the trend: the Ramsey Oxfords, Vegan Leather Double Breasted Jacket, Tattered Flag Scarf, Caldra Layer Pullover in Sherbert, and the Cutoff Denim Vest.
I couldn’t agree more with her choices. And now, her favorite sweet treat, what’s on her holiday wish list and other insights into Claire’s personality….
A Creative Baby Shower
Our creative director is expecting a baby very soon, and today we had a surprise baby shower for her in the cruise ship terminal next to our building at the navy yard. Our display team helped create an incredible setup full of all the things she loves – like American flags and denim – and even pitched a little teepee surrounded by a ring of comfy pillows. The mom-to-be was picked up in a golf cart draped with a flag :) She’s a special lady, very deserving of such a beautiful celebration! Read More
