This post comes from our blog intern, Aubrie!
The earth around us is frozen; a vast sheet of ice covers the surface of the still river while flocks of seagulls circle above and I stop to wonder why they haven’t flown further south to escape the cold winter months. There is beauty in the pathways surrounded by fresh snow but then the wind whips by and stings my face. Although the blue sky is lit, the wind battling the sun to prevent any of its warmth from beating down.
My pink nose almost matches the rich colors of the setting sun. The sky presents a performance of spectacular hues before it leaves to rest early in the evening. Warmer days seem so close, yet so far away; those days where the sunsets could be witnessed from sandy shores or grassy fields like distant memories.
However, inside the comfort of BLDG 25 we turn to optimism. The darker days of our winter blues will soon turn to lighter attitudes. Even though the frigid air reminds us that it is the dead of winter, our minds are looking ahead. Dreams of picking fresh blooms, basking in radiant sunshine, and trading pants for shorts and skirts seem to fill the air. We embrace these dreams and let them fill our workspace. The equinox is on the horizon and we patiently await the dawn of spring again.
Happy Friday everyone!

Man, I am soon entrenched in winter right now! Fleece, coordinating the colors and patterns of multiple scarves, never walking anywhere without the perfect hot drink for the mood and moment. Sleeping under a mountain of blankets. I love it!
Let’s not move on to spring quite yet; I can’t stand the mud and the bugs.
