Post image for Beach Ready In Miami With FP Me

A beam of sunlight peeks through the window and falls across your face, pulling you from your dreams.  You yawn, stretch, pull yourself slowly out of bed.  Take a step outside and feel the warm ground already heating up from the morning sunlight.  Coffee brewing, you throw on your favorite swim suit, adding a loose cover up or sheer dress on top. No matter what your plans are for the day, you’re ready to hit the beach at a moment’s notice.  Read more »

Post image for All Natural SPF Sun Oil

I’m always on the hunt for natural alternatives to everyday beauty products. As the temperatures start to warm up, the only thing on my mind is long days spent in the sunshine. Read more »

To people concerned that this is "unsafe" or something similar, zinc oxide is the original sun protectant. It's the active ingredient in LOTS of the sunscreens that you will find at your health food store, whole foods, etc. This recipe is very, very likely to work as a sun screen - as in, it pretty much IS a sun screen, equivalent to the things you would buy somewhere like whole foods. However, contrary to what you will read in the post, this sun screen will NOT allow you to absorb vitamin D. You cannot use a sun protectant if you want to absorb vitamin D. And our society is very deficient in this vitamin. Many supplement with it, but the best source of vitamin D is always going to be from the sun itself, so DEFINITELY use this sun screen to keep yourself protected when necessary, but... don't use ALL the time or you'll never get any vitamin D - Catie

My sister uses a very similar recipe for a sunscreen. I as well use it. I have very fair skin and burn very easily. My sister and I also have red headed fair skinned babies and use it on them and it Works wonderful. and it will also nourish your skin.

Post image for Sunshine, Surf, & San Onofre

MAKE SURE you buy FAIR TRADE quinoa! The health craze of quinoa in the US and other developed nations have pushed up food prices to unaffordable rates in developing nations that rely on quinoa as a basic staple crop (it's being exported instead of feeding the local people). We of course want to nourish our bodies, but we do not want to do it at the expense of others.
Melissa -May 24, 2014, 9:17PM
@Jane1990 It is debatable whether it's possible to obtain necessary nutrients through plants alone, but even if it is possible for some conscious vegans, there are many other natural, organic and healthy animal-based sources as well, and for many women, this is optimal. Paleo, ancestral eating and gluten-free are some eating philosophies that many women use to stay nourished and healthy. Telling girls to replace wholesome foodsources that our ancestors have been eating for generations, and that the majority of people who adhere to ancient, traditional diets all over the world also consume while maintaining optimal weight and long lifespans, with less-nutritionally-dense plant-based items is ill-advised. Veganism can be an option, but it should not be presented as the best for everyone.

Post image for 5 Reasons To Eat A Dandelion This Spring

Dandelions are incredible. Read more »

Nicole -May 21, 2014, 3:10PM
Growing up, my great grandmother - and eventually my grandfather, mother and her cousins - would all go dandelion 'hunting' in open, empty fields, Dandelion salads were a staple for our summer diet with a little oil, vinegar and salt to taste. Now, most fields are plowed over and its harder to find them as most lawn dandelions are usually treated with weed killing chemicals, or otherwise very small. After reading this post, I'm determined to plant my own dandelion garden!
Emily -May 20, 2014, 5:29PM
I've never thought about eating dandelions but the health-benefits are amazing. Oh, how I wish I had a yard so I could plant my own...#bigcityproblems

Perfect fit! I adore Coolum, such a peaceful beachside town. One of the 1st places I travelled to outside of NZ. I remember the perfect beach shacks so close to the beach. Always wanted to live in one.
