Meet our LA Style Contest Winner!

February 3rd, 2012 / Posted by fp julia / Permalink

As you may recall, we had a little contest this month in conjunction with our January catalog and its NY vs. LA theme. We picked a winner for each city, and now its time to learn a little bit more about these stylish ladies – up first, our LA winner, Eva of Cathedral City, California!

Looking adorable in the floral woven pullover, ankle crop jean and saddle shoes.

What do you love most about Los Angeles?

I definitely love the diversity that exists in L.A.  It’s this huge melting pot of all kinds of people…mostly strange people [haha], but that is what makes L.A. interesting and unique.  It’s one of those cities where self expression is a must.

Three words that best describe California style are: Cool, chic, and trendy.

How would you describe your personal style? Which Free People girl  are you?

I would have to say I’m Meadow and Ginger mixed into one!!  I love the relaxed, carefree, bohemian look when I’m out during the day running errands, shopping, or having lunch/coffee with friends.  But I definitely appreciate a sexy mini dress paired with 5 inch platforms when I’m hitting the town!

What is your favorite trend this season?

Colorblocking seems very popular this season…haven’t tried it yet, but definitely something I would love to try.  Who knew that not matching could ever look so cute?!?!

Office Style: Ladylike and Cool

February 2nd, 2012 / Posted by fp naomi / Permalink

There’s a distinct trend in fashion that has been extremely noticeable around the office these past few months. Employees are embracing their feminine side with a look marked by retro-inspired blouses, peter pan collars, and oxford shoes. The flouncy shirts of the 40’s and 50’s are getting their second life – coming back styled with the coolness of inspirations like Alexa Chung. The retro look couldn’t be more refined and sophisticated, yet adventurous and hip at the same time. We like to pair the lady-like retro pieces back to jumpers and floppy hats for a look that we love so much, we’ve launched a new FP Girl inspired by the trend. Stay tuned next week to learn all about her, but for now, here’s a bit of ladylike and cool inspiration from around the Free People home offices…

I’m not usually one to comment in on these things, but I am naturally really skinny and I get just as much flack for it. I’ve had to deal with people whispering behind my back and trying to shove unhealthy, artificial, and fatty foods down my throat my whole life, but I deal with it – we all have something to deal with. Seriously, learn to love yourself and your body. Self confidence overrides any outside influence.

Fun Facts:

* According to legend, on February 2nd, if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter weather. If he does not see his shadow, there will be an early spring.

* There has only been one Punxsutawney Phil. He has been making predictions for over 125 years!

* Punxsutawney Phil gets his longevity from drinking the “elixir of life,” a secret recipe.

* Phil has a wife named Phyllis.

Let me hear your votes – will Phil see his shadow this year?

UPDATE: He saw his shadow :( But you know what – if it is six more weeks of winter like what we’ve been having, I guess that’s ok.
