something about this post propelled me to buy the kevin aucoin Celestial Powder and do this beauty tip, and it could be my favorite thing ever! the powder is gorgeously shimmery — no jersey shore at all! and smudging some into the corners of my eyes seriously transforms my face. honestly the best beauty tip i've used in years! thanks, FP! Post image for Hair Tutorial: The Modern Dread

UPDATE: This post originally ran on June 3rd 2013 but we still love this hairstyle so much we had to share it again! Read more »

Okay, people with real dreads, calm down. No these don't look like real dreads, they are meant to be a TEMPORARY look. No one is saying these are real, no they don't look as good as real dreads, but there's no need to be so condescending to people not ready to try the real thing. Gracious sakes...
Danelzka -Jul 23, 2014, 11:43PM
I have baby fine silky hair and must use wax to create and maintain my dreads. Common sense. Apply as little as possible. and when shampooing them, rinse in hot water and use dread soap. Never add wax to wet or damp hair.

Post image for 4 Tricks To Make Perfume Last All Day

I love perfume. I think it’s so cool to have a signature scent that adds to the ambiance of who you are, and one that people remember you by. Scent is the most powerful memory trigger. Just one small trace of a scent can take your mind right back to a specific place, event, person, or period of time. Read more »

Post image for Short Hair Styling Tips From FP Girls

I have long hair but in the summertime I’m always tempted to chop it off…in this heat, shorter locks seem so much lighter and cooler.  The last time I cut my hair short was years ago and I never knew how to style it, so I’ve kept it long ever since.  But I always envy those girls who pull it off so well — for example, Anja Rubik’s perfectly tousled locks in our July book. It seemed like the perfect time to get some styling tips from our home office girls who rock the shorter hair — those of you with short hair, share your tips in the comments! Read more »

Post image for How To Get A Spa Pedicure At Home

It’s the season of adventure and we’re all outside, using our feet as much as possible. I love treating myself to a spa pedicure here and there, but what I love even more is treating myself to a pedicure in my very own home. What I’ve found is that I can create my ideal experience all on my own, and that I already have access to all the necessary supplies! Read more »

I can't remember when I didn't admire beautiful nails, it's been 'in me' from a very young age. However, it wasn't until about five years ago, when my sister managed to encourage me to try it (I think a bribe was involved) that I jumped in 'with both feet' and joined the many other artistic, colorful and fun nail polish fanatics. BTW you blog post inspired me so much! Xo :-)

Post image for Voluminous Hair In 4 Steps

People often ask me how I get so much volume in my hair. Truth be told, my hair is naturally puffy and slightly unruly, so for me it’s usually more about trying to tame it down – but there are easy ways to give your hair a nice lift, and today I’m going to share some! Read more »

Thanks for the tips! The only thing I am confused about is dry shampoo. I went to a local drug store, and every single brand had the ingredient propane in it. Is this bad? I am sceptic.
Elyse -Sep 04, 2013, 3:41PM
you have awesome hair! I have been doing a few of these and i do believe that where my part is, my hair is a bit more volumized rather than flat and the hair drying up (or upsidedown) is an immediate result which I love!

I make up a concoction of eucalyptus oil, tea tree oil and water in a spray bottle and spray the sheets every couple of days. Keeps the cats off the bed at least for an hour or so...I also leave my wardrobe doors open on fine days and widely open all the windows plus I have some small wooden balls I soak in essential oil (when I remember). For times when I feel less prosaic I have another spray bottle of gardenia and water which I generally just spray around the room. Lovely, nearly exotic and not too expensive.

The soap in the drawer is genius! Going to have to try that. Lavender is definitely a calming aromatic. Great ideas you've posted. Thanks!

Post image for Tricks To Naturally Lengthen Your Eyelashes

On a day-to-day basis, the only eye makeup I wear is mascara. I naturally have long eyelashes, so a few swipes and I’m good to go. People tend to ask me what my trick is, and without having any specific one, it made me curious as to what natural remedies there actually are for lengthening your eyelashes. After doing some research, I found out that most of the tricks are fast and extremely simple. You won’t notice results right away, but if you use these tricks often, your eyelashes should start to lengthen and thicken overtime! Read more »

Post image for Going Makeup-Free – For The First Time In 11 Years

Ever since I discovered the joys of mascara and eyeliner back in middle school, I’ve worn makeup every day. Every single day for the past 11 years — except for a small handful of times when I was sick or just wasn’t leaving the house. I love makeup. I think it’s so much fun getting all dolled up, or even just adding a touch of blush here and a little mascara there to draw some attention to some of my features.

What I don’t love, however, is the feeling that I need to wear makeup. I know that beauty comes from within and that I’m still me no matter what product is on my face, but somehow over the years I seem to have developed a dependency on it. Read more »

Every year during the month of February I go makeup-less partly because it's the shortest month, and partly because it's the month of love, not just to others, but also towards oneself
